With various archaeological and anthropological exhibitions, the focus is on man's early development as well as existing cultures and populations. The unique Moesgaard Museum is an architectural gem located in fantastic Danish nature, and definitely worth a visit!
ARoS Art Museum
One of Aarhus' most well-known landmarks "Your Rainbow Panorama" sits on top of this enormous art museum. In addition to a colorful panoramic view of Aarhus, ARoS offers 10 floors of art from all over the world, both modern and older. There is something for everyone.
Above is the artwork Boy, made by Ron Mueck.
The Old Town Museum
The history of Denmark told uniquely and vividly. With open shops, restaurants, and stalls, Den Gamle By gives you the opportunity to experience life in Denmark right from the 17th century until today.
Salling Rooftop
Europe's best rooftop bar, Salling Rooftop is worth a visit - not just for the great atmosphere, the architecture, and the food, but also for the very special view over Aarhus, the city of smiles. With several outlook points and seating areas with a view of the city, you get to experience Aarhus from above. There are often events up there and there is free access to this special attraction.
Overtaci museum
Museum Ovartaci is a combined art museum and psychiatric history museum. The museum is named after Louis Marcussen, with the stage name Ovartaci, who was a patient at the Jutland Asylum from 1929 until he died in 1985. Here he lived and worked with his art for 56 years. Overtaci and the art of madness have been called everything from terrifying to fascinating. A different art exhibition that gives a special insight into a vulnerable psyche.
The above painting was painted by Louis Marcussen, Overtaci.
Our Lady Church
Vor Frue Kirke is a Catholic church located near Aarhus Cathedral. The beautiful medieval church has the oldest crypt church in the Nordics, which is believed to have been built around the year 1060. Services are still regularly held in the crypt and it is free to enter and see this unique attraction.
The greenhouses and Botanical Garden
- admission: Adults and children free (isn't that great!?)
Take a trip into Aarhus' very own rainforest. Here you can experience the world's plants and nature up close. If you're lucky, the little fish are hungry and look to the surface, or a butterfly flutters past on its way to beautiful brightly colored flowers.
In the greenhouses in the Botanical garden, children and adults can experience exciting plants and animals completely free of charge. With four different climate zones, the houses offer educational and great experiences from most parts of the world. The walk through the different areas of the houses is helped along the way by interactive stories and opportunities to read more about the different plant species. The greenhouses have a cozy café where you can buy lunch, drinks, and treats, while the children can play and learn in the play area by the café.
Marselisborg deer park
Get up close to the deer and the Danish nature in Marselisborg's beautiful beech forests. The 22-hectare animal park lets you get up close to the wild animals while walking around the beautiful hilly surroundings. It is recommended to take a packed lunch with you - but remember apples and carrots for the deer if you want to enjoy your food in peace :)
Aarhus Theatre
At Aarhus Theater you will find the most beautiful halls that house impressive performances all year round. The unique building was inaugurated in 1900 and has since formed the framework for 1000s of performances and given millions of guests an experience of a lifetime.
Tivoli Friheden
The city's amusement park is an attraction both children and adults will enjoy. With lots of restaurants, entertainment, and arcade games, the whole family is well entertained all day. Tivoli Frihedens park has something special to offer at all times of the year. Flower festival for spring, Halloween for autumn, and the most beautiful Christmas decoration for Christmas.
The Occupation Museum
The old building, which has served as both a town hall and a police station and which today houses the occupation museum, played an important role during the Second World War.
From the autumn of 1944 until the liberation, the building was the headquarters of the feared German security police, the Gestapo.
The preserved cells and basement rooms create a very atmospheric setting for an exhibition that tells about everyday life, resistance, and Nazi oppression.
Aarhus Ø
The new and modern district of Aarhus Ø consists of modern architecture, good restaurants, and a good atmosphere. In addition to the 142-meter-high Lighthouse, Aarhus Ø offers exciting city life and genuine Aarhusian youth culture with a relaxed atmosphere and good music.
